Named after locations where people have been found to live the longest, the Blue Zone Diet focusses on the traditions and typical food products of these zones, all with the aim of boosting longevity.

The five locations around the world dubbed Blue Zones are Okinawa in Japan, Icaria in Greece, Nuoro Province in Sardinia, Italy, the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, and Loma Linda in California. Not only do the people in the Blue Zones have a higher life expectancy, they have much lower rates of diseases and health conditions such as obesity, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
