Fast Tracking Sustainable Travel: Eco First Sailing

Appealing to sustainably minded luxury consumers Cocoon works in partnership with E-boat companies, presenting a sustainable alternative to diesel or fossil- fuel-powered vessels.

Wind powered sailing ships are becoming increasingly appealing to eco-conscious travelers, thanks to their radically lower environmental impact compared to diesel engine powered vessels.

French shipyard Chantiers de L’Atlantique, which has designed a cruise ship topped with 80-metre-high sails made from fiber glass and carbon – the addition of which reduces engine fuel consumption by 50%. Each sail is constructed like an accordion with folding panels which capture the wind and works in tandem with the ship’s engines and propellers. The sails can also pivot backwards on an axis at the bottom of the sail so the boat can fit under bridges.

Ports are adapting to facilitate this push towards electronification.

From 2023, cruise ships arriving at port of Flam in Norway will be able to connect to a new hydroelectric power facility that will provide them with 100% renewable energy.

Cocoon Mode de Vie partners with companies that are at the forefront of sustainability practice and take environmental responsibility. We look at the importance of ethics when looking to develop partnerships, including going beyond eco-friendly practices, so this element of travel is an exciting new development for the yacht world and our members.
